Zambia Army Commander Commends NRSC’s Role in National Development and Security

The National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) today hosted the Commander Zambia Army, Lieutenant General Geoffrey Choongo Zyeele, who reaffirmed the Centre’s critical role in supporting Zambia’s development agenda and strengthening national security.
During the familiarisation tour, Lt Gen Zyeele described NRSC as a strategic national institution, noting that its advanced Earth Observation capabilities provide essential data for decision-making across multiple sectors.
He highlighted the Centre’s work in satellite imagery analysis, soil and land suitability mapping, precision agriculture, environmental monitoring, and real-time surveillance, stating that these services directly contribute to improved agricultural productivity, natural resource management, and national resilience.
“The Zambia Army values the capabilities of the National Remote Sensing Centre. Strengthening our collaboration will enhance our ability to monitor illegal mining, trans-border crimes, and other activities that may threaten national stability,” Lt Gen Zyeele said.
The Army Commander also commended NRSC staff for their professionalism and innovation, emphasizing the importance of continued advancements in geospatial technologies.
Speaking during the visit, NRSC Director Dr Patrick Sibanda expressed appreciation to the Commander Zambia Army and his delegation for their engagement with the Centre’s operations.
He reiterated NRSC’s commitment to supporting the Government’s economic development agenda through accurate, timely, and actionable geospatial information.
“NRSC exists to serve the nation. Our goal is to provide world-class Earth Observation products that inform planning, enhance resource management, and contribute to national security,” Dr Sibanda said.
The visit underscores the growing collaboration between NRSC and national security institutions, particularly in the use of geospatial intelligence to support sustainable development and national protection efforts.
